A gift that can create memories

During this holiday season, I wonder if many children will be getting a book as a present. It is my thought that this kind of gift can create memories to remembered for years to come. The memories of cuddling with a loved one and sharing a few moments of exploring the pictures and words found within a book can be a memory that may long outlast any toy.

Here are some tips for selecting books to be given as gifts.

  1. Choose a book that will be of interest to the child.

  2. Consider the age of the child and their attention span.

  3. Bright simple pictures with rhyming words are best for a younger child.

  4. Format of the book should be made well for repeated reading.

  5. Ask a librarian for suggestions on good authors for your child's age/interest.

Remember when children are exposed to the joy of listening and exploring books early and regularly they will become life long readers. Pick up a book today and share it with a young child. You both will create lasting memories.
